Beam International Limited is the holding company for the Beam Group, the principal operating company of which is Beam Software International Pty Ltd.
Beam Software was established in 1980 to develop multimedia products in the games and 'edutainment' markets. Its principal business is the development of computer games and multimedia products of the highest standard in sports, edutainment, arcade and adventure.
Beam Software has developed more than 150 game titles, including the highly successful 'The Hobbit'. Many of these titles have sold in excess of 200,000 units. The interactive detective CD-ROM game, 'The Dame Was Loaded', released by Beam last year, was voted into the Internet top 100 Games by Australian PC users prior to its international release early this year.
The company invests significantly in research and development to maintain its position at the leading edge. For example, the Company's Advanced Technology Group has developed a number of unique proprietary technologies and methodologies, including Beam's Cinema Technology (VideoBeam), which allows video footage to be displayed at television quality in full screen without the need for additional hardware on most desktop PCs.
Beam Software has excellent relationships with the major hardware and software companies throughout the world, including Microsoft, Electronic Arts, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, EA Victor, Playmates International, Interplay and Philips Media Games.

Products have been sold under licence to overseas publishers for all major hardware platforms, including Nintendo, Sega, PC CD-ROM, Windows 95 and CD-based super-console machines.
The company has also recently signed a Heads of Agreement for a strategic development relationship with Hyundai Electronic Industries for joint investment of US$1 million to develop an entertainment title for the PC CD-ROM and Sony Playstation, to be marketed internationally by Beam.
The company is targetting the Internet World Wide Web as a major development area, aiming to provide on-line entertainment and Internet tools to the world-wide market.
The group archived revenue of $5.2 million in the 1996 financial year, equivalent to wholesale and retail sales in excess of $40 million and $60 million respectively. More than 90 per cent of the Group's revenue is derived from export earnings, primarily for contract development of computer games for other publishers.
The initial public offering of 6,000,000 ordinary shares will provide funds for Beam to develop and publish additional titles, and for further research and development to support Beam's expansion strategy.
The Group is currently wholly-owned by entities associated with its Chairman and Publisher, Alfred Milgrom, and its Managing Director, Adam Lancman.
