Beam International has returned from the Milia ’97 trade show in Cannes with interest for distribution of its ‘Languages for Kids’ series in most major territories. The ‘Languages for Kids’ is a series of 11 titles designed to teach a second language to children 5 - 9 years old.
Milia is the premier international publishing and new media show, attended by over 8,000 multimedia industry delegates from 3,000 companies in 52 countries. Over 1,200 companies from 32 countries exhibited their products and services.
Beam’s Chairman, Alfred Milgrom, and Multimedia Manager, Rebecca Chapman, exhibited the company’s products in the educational software sector, with prototypes from the "Languages For Kids" series.
"We are thrilled with the international reaction to our series, especially since the titles are still in the early days of development" commented Rebecca Chapman. "It seems that we have identified a major opportunity- teaching languages to younger children - which has not been addressed by other companies."
Alfred Milgrom added "We have indications of interest from all the major territories - now it is up to us to complete the development of the series and ensure that these indications of interest become firm deals."
The ‘Languages for Kids’ series is currently in development, and is being jointly funded by Beam and the Australian Multimedia Enterprise Ltd.. The series employs an innovative immersive approach to teaching languages, using fun games and activities to impart educational content of the highest quality.

The languages covered are English as a second language, major Asian languages (Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Indonesian) and major European languages. The entire series is scheduled to be completed at the end of 1997.
"Michio Teaches Japanese", the first title in the series due for completion in March, was awarded "Best Primary School Resource" at the 1996 ATOM Australian International Multimedia Awards.
In Australia, Beam has received a Heads of Agreement from Scholastic Australia for exclusive representation of the "Languages For Kids" series in the retail, school and direct mail markets in Australia and New Zealand.
"We are very excited about developing a close working relationship with Scholastic" said Milgrom. "They are undisputedly one of the leading educational publishers in this country, particularly in regard to educational software. Obviously this is of great relevance to us."
The Beam Group of Companies is one of the world's largest independent multimedia development studios. Beam employs over 80 full time staff, from designers, graphics artists and 3D modellers, through to project managers, programmers, hardware support staff, musicians and quality assurance staff at Beam’s offices in central Melbourne.
